DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION AWARDS $8.6M FOR VISION ZERO PLAN

MIDLAND, TEXAS -- The City of Midland has been awarded a grant from USDOT for the implementation of a project outlined in the City’s Vision Zero Comprehensive Safety Action Plan (CSAP).

The U.S. Department of Transportation reported this week that the City of Midland has been awarded $8.66 million in FY24 Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Implementation grant funding for improvements along the Lamesa Road corridor and citywide signal retiming.

Proposed safety improvements are estimated to reduce total crashes by 618 over a 20-year period on Lamesa Road, between Business 20 and Gist Avenue (41% of bicycle and pedestrian crashes citywide have occurred along this corridor).

Signal timing will be updated on all intersections citywide to create a complete system to promote citywide safety and efficiency.

The City of Midland’s Vision Zero Comprehensive Safety Action Plan fits in with the City of Midland Strategic Plan by:

  • Setting the standard for a Safe and Secure City,

  • Improving the Quality of Life and Place,

  • Providing Sound Governance and Fiscal Management.
